This is for you who are considering getting a DSLR, especially a Nikon DSLR.
This post is especially dedicated to one of my best buddies - Monica & Daniel. Monica called me yesterday, and expressed that she is interested in getting a DSLR, and asked for my opinion on the new Nikon D5000.
For a beginner considering a DSLR, the hottest most talked about Entry-Level DSLR is no doubt is the Nikon D5000. If you are planning to get a Nikon D5000, and most likely you will ask yourself these frequently asked questions:
What is the lowest street price in town?
What are the advantages and drawbacks?
What are the alternate models and price difference?
Which one suits me better?
Here you shall get a clearer picture as we discuss the must-know information about D5000 and D90, from a beginner point of view, and the Body only (without considering the kit lens or package).

Three new Sony DSLR α230, α330 and α380 surfaced in Sony Russian site.
Not much of details, except just some photos and figures highlight.
α230, α330 and α380 looks like the replacement model for α200, α300 and α350 respectively.
α200 were introduced in February 2008, and will be replaced by α230 very soon.
α300 were introduced in March 2008, and will be replaced by α330 very soon.
α350 were introduced in March 2008, and will be replaced by α380 very soon.
Seems like Sony more agressively pushing new DSLR models than Nikon and Canon.

DSLR has good demand and good resale value as I mentioned in “Should you buy a Compact Camera or DSLR?”
I bought my Nikon D70 with the 18-70mm F/3.5-5.6G ED kit lens on early 2004. I can’t remember exactly how much as I didn’t keep track of it, but I can safely recall that it was about RM4000 that time.
About a year later, I sold the kit lens for RM1100+ as high as a new unit in Malaysia over eBay to somebody in the States. Which is a great deal, I guess lenses are pretty expensive in the States.

Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) just announced the XIX TIPA Awards 2009, and here are some of the interesting highlights:
Best Digital SLR Professional - Nikon D3x
Designed on the D3, the Nikon D3x with a 24.4 MP 24×36mm sensor is dedicated to true skilled pro photographers. Beautifully built, with a super 100% viewfinder and a reassuring grip, the D3x combines very high resolution and sensitivity. A first great feature for high-end photography.
Best Digital SLR Expert - Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Replacing the very popular EOS 5D, the Mark II multiplies its pixels to reach a definition of 21.1 MP allowing shooting at an expanded sensitivity from 50 up to 25,600 ISO. It comes with a full HD video mode driven by a DIGIC IV processor. Fast, reliable and discreet, this “expert” D-SLR challenges in quality the best pro models.
Best Digital SLR Advanced - Nikon D90
In its compact body the Nikon D90 offers a true concentrate of technology with a great innovation for a D-SLR: the possibility of making HD videos. Its CMOS sensor offers the definition and quality of the successful D300 for a much lower price. A true sturdy and all-terrain D-SLR.

To recap and summarize the GFish’s opinion in Why Home User Should Not Consider SLR: The post talked nothing but disadvantages of SLR Camera in terms of Convenience, Function, Lighting, Shooting angle, Maintenance, and Skill all the way to the extreme negative, none of the positive and Home User should never consider buying a DSLR. It is seriously sounds like some kind of professional DSLR stepped onto his toes and he decided to scream all loud to curse the DSLR.
The idea and the example given are flawed. The example scenario was based on Home User with zero knowledge of photography VS professional photographer with SLR and few bazooka lenses. The comparison is seriously flawed, too extremely far apart and unrealistic.
GFish’s argument is Home User should not consider DSLR, and I shall comment his statements line by line along with my opinion.
