Good news for all Nikon fans from the Central Region.  There will be a Nikon Show on 14-18 October 2009 in Mid Valley Megamall.  There will be the usual cameras and lenses showcase.  There will be also photography talk, catwalk photography, and photography contest as well.  It really make Northern Region people jealous.

“This Saturday, colourful kites of various shapes and sizes will fill the sky at Esplanade.

Bring along your family for a great family outing where you are able to enjoy colourful Wau or kites flying and learn the unique skill from our kite experts. The Team KEOP (Kite Enthusiasts of Penang) recently won the World Sport Kite 4th placing. They will demonstrate their latest kites such as 2 giant octupus, 2 giant fish, 1 dragon, 5 rokaku and 11 stack bumble bee plus traditional “wau bulan” . All these will be paraded around the field for your viewing.

Teams from Perlis, Kedah, Johor & Kelantan will be joining in this event. A total of 50 kites are expected to cover the Esplanade field.”

Bon Odori more like another annual tourist festival, another good reason to be happy and get yourself drunk.

There will be fireworks presentation on 10pm.  Photographers if you are interested to shoot fireworks, here are some tips on how to shoot fireworks:

1. Prepare your camera and a tripod is a must
2. Identify the exact location of the fireworks.  If you are not sure, go early and find out
3. Identify the the subject (landmark, building, etc) you wanted to shoot (no, fireworks itself is not the main subject)
4. Set your camera in the location where subject in front and firework as background
5. Set your camera at ISO 200, Aperture at F8, shutterspeed between one to two seconds
6. Fire at will
7. If subject too dark, consider using rear sync flash

As promised, a virtual tour for the Transformers Convention 2009 in Queensbay Mall.  Just to apologize in advance that I did not spend a lot of time in photographing the toys.  I missed many important shots, and also many important characters.  Also you may noticed many of the photos are not well composed, mostly are just snapshots.

Weeks before the Convention began, banners and promotion is flying everywhere, including local newspaper and banners on the roadside. What you see here is the main entrance of Queensbay Mall.  Total of four gigantic Autobot and Decepticon Insignias on the auto door complete with nice transparent effect.

June is seriously a happening time conjunction with school holidays in Malaysia and Singapore.  As the Auto-City Super GT Road Show just ended last week, there are more to come.

If you like to see some Beach Volleyball matches, here is something interesting to you.

Sunway Carnival Mall in Seberang Jaya is having a Beach Volleyball competition on 20-21 June 2009, this coming weekend.

If you would like to see or Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball-like action, or simply wanted to shoot some sport action, you should pay a visit that day. Don’t expect too much of bikini, sweaty and bouncy action ok?  Worst case is all turned out are males-only player.  I will be the first one to leave the scene if worst case happened.  After all, all the fun stuffs happens only in computer games.

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen is coming this month. Conjunction with it, Queensbay Mall is having a Transformers Convention, not to the scale of BotCon (Official Transformers Collector’s Convention), but it is considered a grand one in a tiny Island that smaller than a dot in the world map, in fact, it is much greater scale than the one in Kuala Lumpur.  Don’t expect Machael Bay or Peter Cullen to show up as Special Guest.

I hope they do more than just exhibiting, selling or auctioning cheaply made Hasbro Transformers toys, maybe there will be cosplayers dressed up in an Optimus Prime or Arcee costume made with Milo container or something to entertain the crowds.

As a big fan of Transformers from Penang Island itself, a serious collector of Transformers, and a photographer, I have no reason why I should miss this convention.
